If you want a cooling system that is dependable and will last more than a few years do not get a CLC. Get a top tier air cooler. They cost less and last much much longer. The only thing that can fail on a good air cooler is the fan .. easy to replace at low cost.

Air coolers are the lowest priced most dependable coolers there are. They cool as well as CLCs at lower noise levels. We never have to worry about leaks, topping up coolant, changing coolant, replacing worn out parts, etc.

CLCs are a sub group of AIO coolers .. and there are very few AIOs that are not CLC. I do not think using CLCs is a good thing. They are cheaply built .. the cheapest, lowest quality liquid cooler there is. All CLCs use aluminum radiators with dense fin count that require hi-powered fans to push air through them. This means they are almost always loud when working hard to keep things cool. Their pumps that move very little coolant and have to run at full speed to keep things cools so we have another source of noise. CLCs are designed to last 3-5 years. The pump is what fails 9999 out of 10000 times .. and because they are built so there is no way to replace defective components when the pump fails there is no cooling an entire cooler must be replaced before you can use your computer.

There few AIOs that are not CLC are Swiftech Hxxx X2 series made by Swiftech and be quiet! Silent Loop, Fractal Design Kelvin and Alphacool Eisbear all made by Alphacool. All of these have copper radiators, quality pumps, proper hose fittings, etc. If a component goes bad it can be replaced with a new one.

I used an Enthoo Primo with air cooling for 2 years, then I got a smaller case because it was just too big for my needs. Now I'm thinking of going back to a custom loop and want to use the Elite case

    Interesting discussion. thanks.

I'm putting together a new Ryzen 1700X or Coffee Lake system and WAS going to use a Corsair h115 or NZXT Kraken x62, but now I think I want to use a Swiftech AIO cooler. Do the Swiftech coolers require any maintenance or are they install and forget, like the Corsair and NZXT coolers?
    Thanks, radar54
